UNITY - LOVE - RESPONSIBILITY - FOR VICTIMS OF AO POXICOLOGY

An enthusiastic woman

Ms. Tran Thi Phu was born into a family with revolutionary tradition, whose father was the President of the commune people’s committee. In 1966, her father died during the time he fought against the American invaders. Phu is the youngest child among the five children. After more than 30 years doing social work, she retired, joining the Executive Committee of the District Association for Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin. Then she was elected as Vice Chairman of the Association. Besides, she also joined the Standing Committee of the Overseas Vietnamese Association of Da Nang City and became the Secretary of the Residential Area Party Cell for many years. In any position, she always worked impartially, devotedly, and wholeheartedly for the victims of Agent Orange.

It is reported that in Thanh Khe district, Da Nang city, 6 in 10 wards are located in the adjacent area to the Da Nang airport, where there is a large amount of dioxin remaining in the ground, seriously polluting the domestic water source. This area is densely populated with a high number of poor households. Especially, the number of people with disabilities and Agent Orange victims increases every year. The whole ward has 399 direct victims and 133 victims are their biological children, all of whom are in difficult family circumstances, and badly in need of help from the community. As Vice President of the Association, she always grasps the circumstances of the victims' families to promptly take measures to care for, help, and fulfill the task assigned by the Association.

Over the years, Thanh Khe District Association has mobilized the participation of businesses, organizations, individuals inside and outside the city, and overseas Vietnamese to alleviate the pain of Agent Orange. Since 2018 to date, it has mobilized more than 8,600 gifts, with a total value of more than 3 billion 200 million VND. In 2022 alone, it mobilized nearly 2,500 gifts, with a total value of nearly 950 million VND for Agent Orange victims in the district. These results were partly attributed to the active and responsible contribution of Phu.

The work of the association is quite busy, but Phu always spends time visiting and encouraging the victims to grasp their thoughts and aspirations, and promptly share their difficulties in life. For poor and sick families, whenever Phu comes, they seem to have faith and more determination to overcome their difficulties. Moreover, she also makes surveys and profiles of people infected with Agent Orange, joins in rallies and programs, such as: "Joining hands to ease the pain of Agent Orange", gift handover, talks, seminars, training, etc.

Talking about Phu, Mr. Le Thanh Su, President of Thanh Khe District Association, said that Phu is a dedicated, energetic, enthusiastic, responsible person, who is always devoted to building the Association and actively mobilizes resources to care for and help victims of Agent Orange.

With her positive contributions, Phu was awarded a certificate of merit and a commemorative medal "For Agent Orange victims" by VAVA; a certificate of merit by the Da Nang Party Committee and People's Committee; a certificate of merit by the City Association for Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin and Thanh Khe District People's Committee. She has also been recognized and honored by many organizations for her example in studying and following President Ho Chi Minh’s ideology, morality and style and for being an exemplary cadre of the Association in charity and social activities./.
