Improving the quality of life for disabled children in Quang Nam Medipeace projects

At the end of May 2024, in Quang Nam, the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and Medipeace, in collaboration with the provincial Department of Health, held a conference to introduce the Project "Supporting rehabilitation (PHCN) and improving the lives for disabled children in Quang Nam province" phase 2 (2024-2026). The conference was attended by the leaders of the Provincial People's Committee, the Department of Health, the Department of Labor - Invalids and Social Affairs, the Department of Foreign Affairs, the Department of Education and Training, the Provincial Association for Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin, the Provincial Association for People with Disabilities, representatives of the Medical Centers of districts in the project area, the Medipeace Office in Vietnam and other related departments...

At the conference, delegates exchanged and discussed the preparation for launching phase 2 of the project, and reviewed the results of the first phase. Medipeace is a non-governmental organization operating in the field of providing medical equipment and medical support for children with disabilities. In Quang Nam, Medipeace has implemented the first phase of the project "Rehabilitation and improving the quality of life for children with disabilities in Quang Nam province".

Recently, in Quang Nam, Medipeace has established 12 commune-level rehabilitation rooms in 4 districts and has provided rehabilitation equipment for 3 provincial and central hospitals, 4 district-level medical centers and provided rehabilitation equipment for the Center for Protection of Agent Orange/Dioxin Victims and Children with Disabilities under the Provincial Association for Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin; supported assistive devices for 620 disabled children, contributed to renovating accommodation for 120 families of disabled children, held training in rehabilitation for 36 village health workers, 49 health workers, and conducted many screening examinations for disabled children in districts covered by the project...

The purpose of the project is to contribute to improving rehabilitation conditions for disabled children and the quality of life for their families through a sustainable community-based rehabilitation model. Phase 2 will be implemented from 2024 to 2026, in 4 districts of Nui Thanh, Tien Phuoc, Hiep Duc and Tam Ky city. Direct beneficiaries include 1,597 disabled children, with a total cost of 1,234,565 USD.

The next phase of the project aims to improve the social integration environment for children with disabilities in the community; provide housing support and support a variety of assistive devices for children with disabilities. In addition, it will promote community health activities and training on skills to care for children with disabilities at home.

Through the project's activities, children with disabilities and their parents are entitled to social welfare services. They are improved in the livelihood and living environment, and are supported with home-based rehabilitation assistive devices, in order to improve their capacity and skills of rehabilitation./.
